The Names

The Second Group, 1097-1101 (documents 1019-1068)

Masculine Names

In the second group of names, dated from September 18, 1097 to April 1101, there were 79 male names with 744 citations among them. The most common was Pedro, cited 148 times (19.89%). 5 more names (Alfonso, Diago, Citi, Raimundo, and Martin) were cited at least 5% of the time with between 41 and 48 citations each. 14 additional names were cited at least 1% (8-32 citations each). 36 names were unique. 31 names are of Latin origin, 23 of Germanic, 6 each Christian and Basque, 5 each Arabic and Jewish, and 3 Greek. The average number of citations per name is 9.4.

The second group was primarily constructed of given names alone (61.36%). There were a number of patronymic by-names (37.53%). All other constructions comprised less than 1% of the total.

Feminine Names

The second group contained 66 female citations comprised of 24 different names. Maria was by far the most common name with 16 citations (24.24%), over two and a half times the number of citations for the next most common name. Half of the names were unique citations. 12 of the names were of Latin origin, 10 Germanic, and the Christian Maria and the Basque Velasquita were the two remaining. The average number of citations per name is 2.75.
