True Locatives

I have compiled a list of the Spellings of Locations found in records in the Registers of St. Mary's, Dymock, between 1538 & 1600/01.

True Locatives

[Note: These examples are taken from Dymock only. I did not check other parishes for instances of true locatives.]

These are cases where the entry seems to be a documentary form indicating a true locative; that is the "of" or "de" phrase is literal – the person likely comes from that place.

There is one instance of a true locative and no surname. That is:

All other entries have an inherited surname followed by a locative.

All of the instances, regardless of whether there is a surname present, contain "of" or "de" as the locative marker.
